- LETTERS, Page 6Stormy Days in the Northwest
-
- Our story on the Seattle backlash against the migration of
- Californians to that city (NATION, Nov. 13) stirred a number of
- Westerners to speak out. Some benevolent Washingtonians wrote
- that they were embarrassed by reports of discrimination against
- Californians, whom they personally welcomed. A member of the
- keep-out crowd who described herself as "a permanently rusty
- Seattlite" makes her point by downgrading Seattle's attractions
- to people from other states -- "including friends." A
- California chauvinist snaps, "The worst of California is still
- better than the best of Seattle." Readers in the buffer state
- of Oregon are sensibly keeping it a rhetoric-free zone.
